When I first met the man who is the true love of my life, I wasn’t looking for a relationship, I wasn’t even thinking about him in that way. I was married (unhappily), busy raising small children, and had met him because I began working for him.
After being in his presence for a while, I came to recognize that he possessed a quality that I very much wanted. He had this calm assuredness, and exuded a loving presence. And despite how insane his daily schedule was, he was unfailingly kind and generous with his time. I remember thinking that I wanted to be like that- to possess that quality. I wasn’t exactly sure how to obtain it, but it soon became my goal.
More than a year later, when my marriage was truly over and it felt like my life had imploded and was being rebuilt, he told me he was in love with me.
I share this story because it exemplifies what I’m talking about. At the time, I didn’t know this was the pattern, the “secret.” I kind of fell into it accidentally in my desire to be a more loving and present human being.
But this is how the universe really works.
